Forest Methodology

Forests play a dual role in global climate change. As natural carbon sinks, their destruction or degradation results in massive amounts of carbon being released. However, intact, restored or sustainably managed forests can sequester carbon, so substantially reducing overall emissions.

The Forestry Methodology helps policymakers assess the impacts of forest policies to ensure that they are effective in mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

The methodology can be used to assess any policy that targets:
  • afforestation and reforestation
  • sustainable forest management
  • reduced deforestation and degradation
