Renewable energy deployment reduces greenhouse gas emissions by replacing the use of fossil fuels in existing installations and/or building new fossil fuel installations.
The Renewable Energy Methodology helps decision makers, providing methodological guidance on how to estimate emissions pathways and reductions resulting from the implementation of policies in the energy sector.
An updated version of the ICAT Renewable Energy Methodology is scheduled for release in 2026 and will feature revised content as well as expanded policy coverage, including net metering and variable renewable energy. The Executive Summary is already available and can be downloaded below.

The methodology covers three policy interventions:
- Feed-in tariff policies
- Auctions policies
- Tax incentive policies
